A 2015 Harris poll shows that about 95% of pet owners treat their pets as family members, which proves the extent of their value.

It was also found in a study that there are more pets than children in American families!

Even people have now started calling themselves as pet parents instead of owners.

However, keeping a pet is beneficial; let’s see how?

For physical and mental health

Pets have been proven to promote both mental as well as physical health of their owners.

They can’t just only enhance our mood but also help in improving depression conditions and state of loneliness. According to a study, spending time with pets can trigger the level of ‘love hormones' known as oxytocin.

It is found that pet owners have lower heart rates and blood pressure as compared to those who don’t have any pet.

Being a pet owner means you don’t have to go alone for walks, you have a great companion. Even at times, when you are tired, they can urge you for a walk which will accordingly make you feel active and fit. Playing with them, bathing and cleaning the pets are other good exercises for the owners.

Owning a pet means you need to be patient and being affectionate towards them and these attributes will surely make you a better person.

Initially, you might get irritated by the annoying behaviour of your pets but gradually you will start loving their behaviour.

They provide security

Having a pet makes you feel secure, especially when it comes to the dogs. You don’t need a watchman anymore if you have a pet dog, right?

Large dog breeds like German shepherds and Rottweilers are considered best for this purpose just because of their loyalty, protective instincts and confidence.

A nice companion for your child

If you have a pet at your home, then your child has a nice companion to spend the day with him.

According to Blue Cross, a pet at an early age can help in increasing a child’s empathy levels and confidence. Your child can comfortably practice their lessons in front of their pets and improve their reading skills without getting hesitated.

On the other hand, a child also learns the lesson of being responsible by taking the responsibility of a pet.

A catalyst for your social interactions

You might have experienced this while going on a walk with your dog or cat, some strangers try to approach you to ask about your pet’s name or something like that.

This simply means that owning a pet can also help in making more new friends.

In fact, in 2015, a study conducted in Australia and the US states that pet owners were more willing to interact with the people in their neighbourhood in comparison to the people who didn’t have any pets.

Conclusion

There are so many reasons to become a pet owner. However, it completely depends on you if you can take responsibility for feeding and pampering them, then surely move to a pet shop. Animals are considered our best friends and we should also be the same for them.
